Email from PETA

Dear Hy,

Thank you so much for your support! The Him Lam Hotel/Ecotourism Resort is keeping two moon bears and a young rhesus monkey (macaque) captive in barren wire cages outside the hotel for display. PETA has sent a letter asking the hotel to retire these animals to Animals Asia Foundation, who has offered to help relocate the animals to sanctuaries where they can live out the rest of their lives in peace and comfort.

We just had someone come forward to make the phone call on behalf of PETA, but it is very very important to show the hotel that citizens of Vietnam are concerned about this issue as well. One of the most important things you can do to help these animals is to write a letter to the hotel, or even just fax over a quick note, or place a quick call, telling the hotel that you are saddened by the plight of these animals. The contact information for the hotel is below:

Moon bears are highly endangered. They are extremely intelligent and have intricate communication systems. Moon bears love to climb, swim and make cosy dens in hollow logs, caves and trees. Cubs stay with their nurturing mothers for two years. Life in a cage is profoundly detrimental to their health and well-being.

Primates such as rhesus monkeys also possess keen intelligence, and their complex social, physical and psychological needs cannot be met in captivity. In the jungles and forests where they belong, rhesus monkeys raise families, play and defend their homes. Rhesus monkeys live in large matriarchal groups and can live easily in the trees or on the ground. This young primate should still be with his mother.

Please let me know if you’re able to send a letter, fax over a random note, or make a quick call. You’re support is so greatly appreciate and vital to helping these animals.

Warm regards,

Ashley Fruno
